Design for Change is a global movement that empowers children to be the change they wish to see in this world. Based on a simplified design thinking process, this initiative asks students to FEEL any problem that bothers them, IMAGINE a way to make it better, DO an act of change and SHARE their story of change with the world. Last year Ajmera Global School’s (AGS) Design for Change Story on Food Savers was a grand success, finding a place amongst the top 20 stories.
This year, AGS worked upon ‘Tapping Unused Resources’ under the guidance and support of the principal Ms Hima Doshi.
Students of Grade VI decided to bridge the gap between the haves and have-nots by sharing unused resources. Resources such as water bottles, home appliances, stationery, books etc were collected from the school community. The collected items were sorted and tagged with marginal price. A fare was held on September 13, 2014 for the entire school community in the school Atrium. The goods were sold out in no time and a decent amount was collected.
Then, NGO ‘Pratham’ was contacted and resources needed by them were short listed. Finally, a much required harmonium was donated to them with the funds collected at the fare. The initiative was extremely satisfying as it brought smiles on innumerable faces.
