Ajmera Global School (AGS) endeavours to motivate the younger generation to make tomorrow’s world a better place to live in. To think and act in this direction, AGS started its academic year 2014-15 by celebrating “World Environment Week”.
During the environment week, the teachers and students together engaged in various activities, which on a small scale helped in the protection and betterment of our environment.
The week commenced with the setting up of essential agreements in which the students brainstormed about the best practices that can be implemented to protect our environment. A green tree was then constructed with these agreements. The students of Grade 3 made bird feeders from waste plastic bottles to help birds from starving. Students of Grade 4 and 5 used waste bottles and tins to plant saplings. Students of Grade 6 and 7 planted saplings near the school gate which added to the beauty and greenery of the school. To bring students closer to nature, a field trip to 'Keshav Srushti' was planned on June 28, wherein students were engaged in various activities like 'recycling waste paper', 'use of solar energy' for cooking, 'being a farmer for a day' etc., which motivated them to appreciate the importance and value of nature and take care of our environment.
“Change for the betterment can be brought about only if it is initiated at the community level” and hence an 'awareness rally' was also a vital part of the environment week. All the students of the school, along with the teachers took a lead in spreading awareness about the consequences of harmful human activities which could disturb the environmental balance. The message was conveyed very effectively with informative and aesthetically appealing posters prepared by the IGCSE students along with a sensitising street play performed by the PYP students.
On the final day of the environment week, students shared their experiences and views with each other. The teachers gave their feedback to students and also bestowed on them a token of appreciation for their active involvement in the event. The event week concluded with a promise to continue with the good work in future.
