La Fête Nationale, called the Bastille Day, an occasion of grand celebration in France, was celebrated with equal enthusiasm at Ajmera Global School (AGS). On Monday, July 13, a special assembly was planned by the students and teachers of AGS. The event was graced by Mrs. Prochy Master, the author of the series of reference books "Oui, Je Parle Français!”
At AGS, learning is initiated through a multicultural environment for which the celebration of the French National Day plays a vital role. The students get an opportunity to explore the French culture by means of learning the language. They develop communication and intercultural skills which were portrayed during this special assembly through varied activities. Active participation by the students and encouragement from the teachers were the key points behind the success of this programme.
This day holds a very important place in the history of France as it was on this day that the Bastille prison was stormed by the commoners to free all the prisoners and set the ball rolling for the French Revolution.
The grandeur and magnificence of this day is known worldwide and this was presented by the students in a video comprising ofle défilé militaire (the military parade), la patrouille de France (the air show), le fest in (the feast) and les feux d'artifice (the fireworks) at the Eiffel Tower. The students of grade VII sang a beautiful French song "Aux Champs-Élysées" which describes the biggest and the most vibrant street of Paris where the National day parade takes place on July 14.
Mrs. Prochy Master added flavor to the occasion as she not only happily accepted the invitation but motivated the students for their journey ahead with the French language. A French chat show with an English translator, organised by the IGCSE students was the highlight of the event. Mrs. Master also visited the students in all the classes from grade III to X and shared with them some simple techniques to learn the French language. The students had an enriching experience with her.
This event proved fruitful to the students as it added to their knowledge of the French language and culture and also increased their curiosity to learn more.
