MAHESH SHETTY, Chairman
MT Educare Pvt. Ltd

Where would you place education on your national list of priorities?
#1. Because education creates thought leaders, stimulates innovations and their commercial applications.

How important is the supplementary education industry?
Supplementary education is critically important in this age of nuclear families and working parents who cannot offer home support structures to children. Moreover, the national shortage of qualified teachers has made supplementary education the prerequisite of grades improvement and excellent exam results.

Thinker/philosopher you admire the most.
Aristotle: he propounded that there is a hierarchy in all life forms of the universe and nature never does anything unnecessary.

Your favourite educationist.
Rabindranath Tagore, because he awakened the mind and spirit.

Your leadership style.
9-9. The first ‘9’ stands for efficiency at work (self) and the second stands for being with your people and getting the best out of them.

Your favourite book on leadership.
Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

For or against the RTE Act mandating 25 percent reservation for underprivileged children in private schools?
Against. It’s always better for children to study with their  social and cultural peers.

Should education outlay be doubled by cutting defence expenditure?
No. There is no need to cut one to double the other. There are enough resources for education. Spending priorities need to be redrawn.

How satisfied are you with the growth and development of MT Educare?

More than satisfied. MT Educare has been ranked #2 in the welterweight category of India’s fastest growing companies.

Pessimistic or optimistic about the future of Indian education?
Optimistic. Humankind has progressed from caves to the Stone Age to the Industrial Age to the Technology Age and is now progressing towards the Wisdom Age. If this understanding is correct, not only the future of Indian education but also of world education, is bright.
