Relationships are the essence of any festivity and it holds true for any Indian festival. The term 'Raksha Bandhan' suggests 'a bond of protection'. Sisters tie the silk thread called Rakhi on their brother's wrist and pray for their well being. JIRS celebrated the festival of brothers and sisters on the 18th of August 2016. Raksha Bandhan holds great emotional and religious significance & exhibits the beautiful relationship of love, care and affection between siblings. The Colosseum was bedecked for the occasion. The staff created artistic rangolis and decorative thalis with many different designs. The entire ambience at the celebration space was filled with beautiful songs fostering the spirit of brother hood and sisterhood. The decorated plates with sacred threads lighted lamps and a variety of pooja items were displayed on the floor. The children sat on the floor eagerly waiting their chance to be tied with the silken thread of binding. The brothers in turn offered their sisters gifts and sweets and promised to take care of them in return. The programme started at 7.30 am. All the girls dressed up in their traditional costumes headed towards the temple, where pooja was held. The boys were seated in rows in the Colosseum. After the pooja, the girls were given the Rakhis. Unity and diversity could be seen when  African, Thai & Korean children dressed in their best attires also tied the sacred thread on the wrists of their brothers and put the tilak on the brother’s forehead and proceeded to do the Arathi. It was a beautiful sight to see smiles writ large on the faces of the children as they walked along with plates filled with chocolates and gifts received by them. This day will remain etched in their memories for a long time to come, when they are back at home, they will miss this colourful & touching event.
