Chancellor’s Recognition Scholarships offer

Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis (IUPUI) — a unique partnership between Indiana University and Purdue University, USA — has instituted annual US $12,000 (Rs.5.4 lakh) scholarships, renewable for up to four years for a total value of $48,000 (Rs. 21.6 lakh) per student, for high-achieving Indian students. The universities’ Chancellor’s Recognition Scholarships enable direct admission into the prestigious IUPUI Honors College. The scholarships will be offered to high school seniors consistently earning first class grades, with minimum combined SAT I math and critical reading test scores of 1,250, and who qualify for admission to IUPUI no later than February 1, 2012. Already four students from Maharashtra have been offered these prestigious scholarships for fall 2011.

Announcing the scholarships in Mumbai on April 19, Sara Allaei, director of international enrolment and services, said: “We have noticed a tremendous interest among well-qualified Indian students in the science and engineering programmes offered at IUPUI. Due to this strong interest, this year’s rate of admission of undergraduate Indian students is running approximately 50 percent higher than last year.”

For the incoming fall 2011 class, IUPUI has already offered more than $100,000 (Rs.45 lakh) annually in scholarships to 17 undergraduate students from India and hopes to double this intake next year.

IUPUI encourages academically motivated students from India to apply by December 1, 2011 for fall 2012 together with requests for scholarships and financial aid. IUPUI offers more than 10,000 classes, 250 degree programmes, state-of-the-art facilities and exceptional faculty. Its 30,000 plus students include 1,400 international students from 140 countries, including more than 240 from India.
