EW India School Rankings Awards 2016

Over 800 principals, trustees and teachers of India’s top-ranked day, boarding and international schools who attended EWISRA 2016 were conferred national, state and city rankings among other awards as per the EWISR 2016 league tables   Summiya Yasmeen

The new-format two-day EW India School Rankings Awards (EWISRA) 2016 staged at the Leela Ambience, Gurgaon on September 23-24, was arguably the largest gathering of promoters, trustees, principals and teachers from the country’s most admired schools in Indian history. Over 800 principals, trustees, and teachers of India’s top-ranked day, boarding and international schools networked and discussed education issues of national importance in the capacious ballroom of the Leela Ambience fitted with hi-definition LED screens, and were conferred national, state and city rankings among other awards as per the EducationWorld India School Rankings 2016 league tables published in early September.

Among the principals and education leaders who received awards on the occasion were Matthew Raggett of The Doon School, Dehradun; Dr. Vijay Datta of Modern School, Barakhamba Road; Sumer Singh of Daly College, Indore; Zarene Munshi, Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai; Gunmeet Bindra, Welham Girls, Dehdarun; Lt. Gen. Arjun Ray of the Indus International School, Bangalore; Sangeeta Chima, Lawrence Lovedale and Snehal Pinto, Ryan International Group of Institutions. Moreover, Dr. P.C. Thomas, founder-principal of the Good Shepherd International School, Ooty; Capt. Raj Mohindra, founder-managing director of the Mumbai-based Raj Mohindra Consultants Pvt. Ltd and Dr. R. Varadarajan, founder-chairman of the National Education Society, Mumbai, were conferred the EW Lifetime Achievement in Education Leadership 2016 Award with special citations on the occasion.

The two-day awards presentation ceremony also featured a keynote address ‘Managing and Transforming Schools of the 21st century’ delivered by Thomas Schadler, director-general of College du Leman, Switzerland, and two panel discussions. The first panel which discussed points from the keynote address included Dr. Nils Remmel, director of Institut Montana Zugerberg, Switzerland; Jaideep Gupta, founder-CEO of the Hyderabad-based Univariety Pvt. Ltd and Sanjeev Trivedi, managing director of the Goa-based Infiniti Modules Pvt. Ltd.

Against the backdrop of the imminent presentation to the nation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2016, the second panel deliberated ‘NEP 2016: Suggestions and Recommendations’. The panellists were Robert Sun, an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania and president and CEO of the US-based First in Math; Smita Godrej Crishna, chief mentor of the Udayachal School, Mumbai; Divya Lal, chief operating officer of Educomp Solutions Ltd’s Smart Class Division; Chandra Shekhar Ohja, head of marketing (school initiatives), Camlin Kokuyo Ltd and Jay Shah, co-founder of The Sports Gurukul Pvt. Ltd.

The EducationWorld Foundation also announced three ambitious projects — Million Memorial Libraries Now; Green School for Girls and the EW Exchange Program (to promote exchanges of best teaching-learning practices between educators and schools worldwide) — on the occasion.
