Due recognition

IT IS INDEED A MOMENT of great pride and honour to be ranked second in the state of Karnataka among the best boys boarding schools (EW September). With a sense of deep gratitude, I convey my sincere thanks for giving the Rashtriya Military School, Bangalore due recognition.

Disappointing rank

I READ YOUR EW India School Rankings issue (EW September).

I’m sorry to say that we are not satisfied with the ratings and rank given to Shah Satnam Ji Girls School, Sirsa in comparison to Vidya Devi Jindal School, Hisar.

We were satisfied with last year’s rank but this time it’s really disappointing. We want to know the parameters for grading so we can improve our performance and ranking.

Principal, Shah Satnam Ji Girls School, Sirsa

Sad survey

RE THE EW INDIA SCHOOL Rankings 2014 (September), it was quite disheartening to note that a magazine of such repute could publish a survey report which is not authentic.

There are many discrepancies in the survey methodology. Nobody from the survey team visited our school and neither did we receive any questionnaire which is the first step to collect any data. As per the information published in the Times of India dated September 15, 2014, “as many as 8,263 parents, teachers, principals and educationists participated in the survey”. But nobody approached me for the same. We request you to reveal the names of the people who participated in the survey from our school, so we can be assured of the authenticity of the information published.

Secondly, the survey conducted was not done according to the basic rules of statistics. The data was collected randomly and not graded. You have compared senior secondary schools with middle schools. Schools affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations and CBSE are grouped under the same category.

For your information DPS, Indira Nagar has an enviable reputation and has carved a niche for itself in the educational field. We are not being boastful when we say we are one of the most sought after CBSE schools in Lucknow. This survey report has saddened us.

Decimal points error

OUR HEARTIEST COMPLIMENTS FOR publishing the EducationWorld India School Rankings 2014 (EW September). The concerted effort made by your team is praiseworthy. EducationWorld’s comprehensive school rankings not only provide parents information about institutions but also stimulate schools to improve themselves.

However, I want to bring to your notice that in the column ‘CISCE/CBSE exams scores’, there’s a glaring error. DPSG has a CBSE class XII exam average of 90 percent and not 89.6 percent as mentioned by you. Moreover, the scores awarded to our school on other parameters need to be revised. We believe most schools ranked above us don’t match us in most parameters.

Please issue a rectification as early as possible.

Jyoti Gupta
Principal, DPSG, Ghaziabad

Source of motivation

WE FEEL PRIVILEGED TO BE A part of the EducationWorld India School Rankings for the fifth time. EducationWorld is a source of motivation for all newly-established schools as it recognises their achievements and best practices.

Though we are always ranked among the top schools, we are striving hard to make it into the Top 10. In the last few years, our board results have been very competitive in comparison with the Top 10 schools. We will continue doing good work with your blessings.

Principal, GD Salwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi

Methodology query

IN THE EW INDIA SCHOOL Rankings 2014, R.N. Podar School has been ranked 7th in Maharashtra and Mumbai. However, we have concerns regarding our individual parameter ratings in areas where we are progressive. These are:

• Competence of faculty. It is ironic that while we have a high score on ‘individual attention to students’, we have a low score on faculty competence. Are the two not correlated?

• Academic reputation. The school has had outstanding results year after year, and is known to be rigorous in academics.

• Life skills education and conflict management. Our life skills programme dates back to the time when most schools had only begun talking about it.

Also, you have completely left out one important parameter — integration of technology in education.

For each of these parameters, we would like to know the indicators and research methodology. In the absence of transparency, we are led to doubt the authenticity of the survey. We would like to know the basis of giving these scores.

Unjustified omission

IN RESPONSE TO YOUR request, we had promptly informed you that the average CBSE class XII (English + Best 4) score obtained by our students is 81.85 percent. We are surprised to see that in the EducationWorld India School Rankings 2014, the words ‘not applicable’ has been printed against the name of our school. Please issue a corrigendum.

Classification confusion

IT IS WITH A DEEP SENSE OF regret and disappointment with the EW India School Rankings 2014 that I write to you. In your rankings, Modern Delhi Public School (MDPS) has been ranked the #1 school in Faridabad though MDPS was awarded an aggregate score of 1,110 points cf. DPS, Faridabad’s 1,116.

You have wrongly classified DPS, Faridabad as a day-cum-boarding school while MDPS has been classified as a co-ed day school. Let me point out that DPS, Faridabad has a total strength of 4,348 students of whom a mere 52 are boarders. The number of day scholars at DPS, Faridabad is more than the total strength of MDPS.

Also, I am sure you’ll agree Faridabad is a part of Delhi NCR. Both MDPS and DPS, Faridabad are in the same region. Then how can they be classified in different categories?

Moreover, in the Haryana state rankings for co-ed boarding schools, ML Nehru School of Sports, Rai, Sonipat with 1,085 points has been ranked #1. I repeat DPS, Faridabad has 1,116 points. We fail to comprehend the deciding factors for these rankings. I hope the error will be rectified immediately.

Anil Kumar
Principal, DPS, Faridabad

MDPS and DPS, Faridabad have been ranked in different categories — day co-ed and day-cum-boarding. ML Nehru is sited in an entirely different state. In light of your small number of boarders, next year DPS, Faridabad will be classified a day co-ed school — Editor

Wrong state

THANK YOU FOR THE EW India School Rankings 2014. I am sorry to say our Punjab No.1 rank is wrong. We are not in Punjab, we are in Haryana. Please issue a correction.

Sorry. Kimberley is the #1 international wholly residential school in Haryana — Editor

Corrigenda: NPS International School, Guwahati was inadvertently described as Gems International School in the league table of India’s top day-cum-boarding schools on pages 132 and 137.

The Guru Nanak Fifth Centenary (GNFC) School, Mussoorie was misclassified as a composite c0-ed boarding school. In fact GNFC runs separate boarding schools for boys and girls.
