Teach For India (TFI), a Mumbai-based non-profit organisation (estb.2007), invites applications for TFI’s two-year full-salaried fellowships from India’s most promising college graduates and working professionals. They will serve as full-time teachers of children from low-income households in under-resourced schools across the country.
“The fellowship programme is rigorous, challenging and provides fellows the opportunity to develop as leaders as well as transform the lives of children,” says a TFI spokesperson.
Currently, TFI fellows in Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Bangalore are teaching more than 45,000 children in under-resourced schools.

OUPI Kolkata workshop
Oxford University Press India (OUPI) organised an interactive English Language Teaching (ELT) workshop for school teachers at The Park, Kolkata on December 3. The workshop was led by educationist Nicholas Horsburgh, author of New Oxford Modern English, one of OUP’s most popular ELT courses for almost three decades. The ELT workshop introduced teachers to interactive pedagogies for English language teaching.
Speaking on the occasion, V. Sivaramakrishnan, managing director of OUPI, said: “The teacher is the principal pivot of the learning eco-system. Hence OUP is committed to enabling professional development of the teaching fraternity through continual training delivered by experts, in online and offline mediums.”
The Nicholas Horsburgh workshop attracted participation from over 70 primary-secondary teachers of several prominent schools of Kolkata.
NTTF-Steinbeis degree programme
The Bangalore-based Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF, estb.1963), a pioneer technical training institution, has launched a dual certification bachelor of engineering programme offered by Steinbeis University, Berlin. The programme enables class XII school-leavers who sign up for the three-year NTTF diploma programme in tool & die making or mechatronics to concurrently enroll in Steinbeis University’s bachelor of engineering degree programme. Graduates of this dual programme are qualified for admission into Masters programmes in Europe and the UK.
The programme was formally launched on December 2 at NTTF’s Electronics City (Bangalore) campus by Ms. Margit Hellwig-Boette, consul-general of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Prof. Dennis De, director of the Steinbeis Transfer Institute, International Technical Education and Management (ITEM), Berlin, and N. Reguraj, managing director, NTTF (India).
“NTTF’s collaboration with the globally renowned Steinbeis University is a step towards enhancing the competency of Indian school-leavers and skilling them for industry,” said Margit Hellwig-Boette, speaking on the occasion.
Added N. Reguraj, managing director of NTTF: “This programme marks an important milestone in the journey of NTTF. It reflects the true spirit of the country’s ‘Make in India’ programme of creating more skilled professionals. I am confident this programme will create more demand for Indian engineers not only in India, but globally.”
Samsung presents EDGE
Samsung India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Seoul (Korea)-based Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd launched Samsung EDGE (empowering dreams, gaining excellence), a first-of-its-kind competitive programme, in Delhi on December 22. The programme is designed for students of leading B-schools and engineering colleges across India to interact with the leadership team at Samsung to “work on real-world business problems and come up with unique solutions”.
“In the final National Round, 12 teams will battle it out after which the three winning teams will be announced. This programme will provide us a platform to directly interact and engage with some of the brightest minds in leading B-schools and engineering colleges. We are confident we will gain valuable insights through this engagement,” said Udaiy Khanna, vice president of human resources of Samsung India, speaking on the occasion.

UPES scholarships offer
The University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun (UPES, estb.2003) intends to award 590 scholarships valued at Rs.3.53 crore to meritorious students for the academic year 2017-18. Last year, the university awarded scholarships valued at Rs.1.53 crore. Moreover, this year new programmes including B.Design, B.Planning and MBA are being introduced and special scholarships will be awarded to 150 toppers of the Uttarakhand state examination board.
“Apart from scholarships awarded to undergraduate students, UPES is also offering teaching assistantships to students planning to pursue postgraduate M.Tech, M.Plan and M.Design courses. Students admitted into these study programmes can also earn monthly retainers by teaching and conducting research for a few hours every week,” says a UPES spokesperson.
