DAIS students top IGCSE

At an impressive ceremony staged at the Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai (DAIS) on November 7, University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) felicitated students of DAIS who topped CIE’s IGCSE (class X) examinations in 2008. Jesika Haria achieved five ‘top in India’ subject awards plus a special award for scoring the highest marks in India in six IGCSE papers. Another DAIS student, Gaurang Vimal Poddar, was awarded the highest marks worldwide in CIE’s physical education and mathematics papers.

“The success of DAIS students in the latest IGCSE examination is exceptional. The Cambridge IGCSE is India’s, and the world’s, most popular international examination for 14-16 year olds. The Cambridge philosophy is to develop syllabuses which allow students to become independent learners, and equip them with the skills to continue learning throughout their education and working life,” said Ian Chambers, regional manager CIE, speaking on the occasion.

Added Nita M. Ambani, chairperson of DAIS: “Over the last three years our IGCSE students have delivered outstanding results. This year we have the distinction of a world topper in two subjects, four students scoring the highest aggregate across nine subjects nationally, and one adjudged the best student in India. At the heart of this remarkable feat is the exemplary devotion of our teachers, and the pivotal role that parents have played in contributing to the achievements of our children.”
