Nungshi-Tashi, the first Indian twins to climb Mt. Everest were present in Mumbai on Friday to share their eventful journey with the students of Oberoi International School (OIS), Goregaon East.
To have a passion and follow it religiously is something the 23-year-olds spoke on and urged the youth to pursue the same for achieving success. Passion is the key element, which made it possible to conquer 6 of the 7 highest peaks in each of the continents for their #Mission2For7. The twin sisters hail from Sonepat in Haryana, a state known for its exceptionally poor sex ratio and dealing with issues like female foeticide and increasing violence against the girl child.
Ecstatic with the interaction, Nungshi-Tashi said, “Experiencing a journey is one feeling, and sharing it with a whole bunch of enthusiasts is another. It was a great pleasure talking to the students of OIS and making them understand the importance of passion combined with commitment because this is the age when their minds evolve and take the shape of the values inculcated. The students at OIS were really glued to our mountaineering journey and we were more than happy to answer each of the questions coming our way. Everyone’s life is a mountaineering experience, especially women, with ‘mountains’ challenging each of us in their own particular pattern. We hope to have made an impact on these young minds, which will help them overcome the ‘mountains’ in life, pun intended.”
Dr. Vladimir Kuskovski – principal, Oberoi International School said, “Here at OIS, we believe in the development of the whole child, which in other words means that our students’ education neither ends nor begins in the classroom alone. It is critical to expose our children to outside the classroom activities. Having the twins, Nungshi and Tashi, come and speak to our students helps them understand that one can live their dreams provided they have determination, will power and dedication. These align closely with our vision and core values as well as the IB learner profile. The twins' talk was very inspiring to our students because each of us have our own mountains to climb and hearing this from the young women who came from an ordinary family, lived a normal life and went to a regular school and, nonetheless, achieved so much by the young age of 22 just goes to show to our students that anything is possible. The famous saying "where there is a will, there is a way" comes to life when listening to Nungshi and Tashi.”
Oberoi International School regularly invites experts from various fields to conduct interactive workshops with students. Apart from the regular learning, the school aims to empower students to grow as individuals with strong, open, and discerning minds through national and international perspectives; preparing them to make their mark on the global village the world has come to be today.
