Overview
Established in 1947 by Honourable Late Dhondumama Sathe, Walchand College of Engineering (WCE), Sangli, Maharashtra is an autonomous institute of national repute. In 1947, the college started with a Civil Engineering department offering an undergraduate degree (B.E. Civil) with a class for 60 students. It later introduced other disciplines such as Electrical, Mechanical and Information technology.
Affiliated with the Shivaji University, Kolhapur, the institute is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and accredited by NBA. The placement record of the college shows 463 undergraduate students placed in reputed organisations during 2010 and 2011.
Campus
Sited on a 92 acre plot on the southern side of Sangli–Miraj Road, WCE offers a residential campus with majority of students housed in the campus hostel. The campus hosts different buildings for different departments. WCE campus also hosts an assembly hall and newly constructed library building.

Achievements
Walchand College ranked No. 2 nationally out of about 127 institutes that participated in Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP), as reported in the survey conducted by Spectrum India. In 2011, the college was again selected under Phase II of TEQIP, focused on development of post graduate education.
