Overview
Utpal Shanghvi School, Mumbai, founded in 1982, is a coeducational day school affiliated to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. The school has recently introduced the International General Certificate of Secondary Examination (IGCSE) and Cambridge International Primary Program (CIPP) as well as the AS and A levels (equivalent to class XI & XII) offered by the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), UK.
The school was founded by the Juhu Parle Education Society, with the objective of producing progressive thinkers who will be responsible citizens with strong cultural roots. The school enrolls3, 400 students and offers a teacher student ratio of 1:40 in the state boards section and 1:30 in the IGCSE section. The school offers pre-primary to class XII education.
The classrooms are equipped with the latest ICT-enabled teaching aids. An audio-visual room, Interaction Room Centre and rooms for dance, drama, music and yoga provide ample opportunities for students to explore different media and arts.
Campus
Utpal Shangvi offers state-of-the-art academic and play facilities. The play area for the pre-primary school students is well-equipped with a composite play-unit and gymnasium and includes a paddle pool, dolls and puppets.
All classrooms are equipped with computers. There is also a computer room with about 50 computers, so every student gets to use one computer. The auditorium, which also functions as the assembly hall, has a seating capacity of 500. There is an audio-visual room and a separate conference hall for about 60 people where seminars and workshops are conducted. There are also separate rooms for drama, art, dance, yoga and music.
The school has a room for language development as well as another for human resource development (focus on public speaking skills and other life skills). The unique Interaction Room Centre in the school allows for private yet informal communication between parents and teachers.
The school library has a vast collection of books, journals and periodicals. The digital section of the library gives students access to rare books and study material. A recording room with digitalized recording and editing facilities is available to record speeches, a student’s musical rendition, or a seminar.
The school also hosts a home science lab for students to learn about personal hygiene and nutrition. The science laboratory has individual sections for biology, chemistry and physics.
Facilities for sports such as football, athletics, throwball, roller skating, handball, karate, jujitsu, table tennis and lawn tennis are available.

In 2008, the Juhu Parle Education Society set up the Prabhavati Padamshi Sohni International Junior College (PPSIJC) for students who finished their IGCSE exams and wished to continue with the AS and A levels. The college offers Arts, Science and Commerce streams.
