Overview
Promoted in 1993 by St. John’s Education Trust, St. John’s International Residential School (SJIRS) Chennai, is a co-educational English medium boarding school located in Chennai. The school is affiliated to the Delhi-based Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and offers education from class IV to class XII. SJIRS ranked among the top boarding school in south India in the Education World India School Ranking 2012.
Campus
Sprawling over 30 acres, the campus is accessible by all modes of transport from any part of the country. It hosts well-equipped modern classrooms, science and math laboratories, a computer resource centre, an audio-visual room, a library featuring 14,000 books on various subjects, and an art education centre.
Medical facilities include a hospital with well qualified medical and nursing stuff. Sports facilities include a 400 meter athletics track, separate cricket, football and hockey grounds and multiple courts for basket ball, tennis, volley ball and badminton.
Accomodation
The school boasts state-of-the-art fully air-conditioned separate hostel blocks for girls and boys. The well-designed dormitories can accommodate 60 students.
Academics
The school offer CBSE pattern of education from class IV to class XII. Languages taught in the school include French, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. It also offers special subjects like engineering graphics, home science, biotechnology and entrepreneurship.
Extracurricular: The school places emphasis on learning beyond the classroom and facilitates various club activities, literary and cultural events, educational tours and sports such as basket ball, football, volleyball, athletics, snooker, table tennis and cricket.
Admission
Application form and prospectus is available against a payment of Rs 250 at the school office. The completed application form is required to be sent to the school office along with a registration fee of Rs. 5000. Admission is on the basis of performance in the entrance test and interview conducted in the months of March, April and May.
Fees: Annual tuition fees for classes IV to VIII varies from Rs. 1,20,000 to Rs.1,40,000 and for classes IX to XII, it varies from Rs. 1,35,000 to Rs.1,55,000.
