Overview
Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (SRMC & RI), now named Sri Ramachandra University (SRU), is a deemed university declared under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. SRU was established in 1985 as part of Sri Ramachandra Education and Health Trust under the leadership of N.P.V. Ramasamy Udayar. SRU is comprised of eight constituent colleges with over 45 departments offering about 92 courses in health care, medical studies and research with more than 3500 students enrolled in these programs.
SRU has collaborated with Partners Harvard Medical International for curriculum reform, faculty development and improvements in health care quality and patient safety in the institute's affiliated medical centre. The hospital also has received accreditation from the Joint Commission International in 2009, making it the first teaching hospital in India to obtain such accreditation from JCI. The university has been accredited by NAAC with A Grade with a CGPA of 3.52 on a 4-point scale, the highest to be awarded to a private medical university in India.
The Word Health Organization (WHO) has designated Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Occupational Health.
The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has accredited the Biodosimetry lab of the Department of Human Genetics for assessment of personnel radiation exposure and related studies, making SRU the only non-governmental institution in the country to have received such accreditation.
Campus
The SRU campus sprawls over 150 acres hosting lawns, open spaces, colleges, the medical centre, staff and student hostels, conference facilities, play grounds, restaurants, ATM, gift shops, travel service, railway reservation counter and a post office.
The university boasts a national level visibility as a centre of excellence in exploiting information technology to the hilt, by establishing state of the art telemedicine connectivity by satellite, ISDN lines and internet connectivity to several institutions in India - Siliguri, Durgapur, Kolkata, Guwahati, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh etc. It also a part of the PAN-African network for telemedicine.
Accomodation
The university hostel provides 2,500 single rooms for boys and girls that accommodate undergraduate and postgraduate students in medical and other disciplines.

For MBBS
Number of seats: 250
Candidates should have passed HSC (Plus 2) examination or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50 percent marks (in case of SC/ST & OBC 40 percent) in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany & Zoology) and a should have also secured not less than 50 percent marks (in case of SC/ST & OBC 40 percent) in the all India entrance examination conducted by university.
For MD and MS courses
Candidates should have a degree in MBBS from a recognized institution
For MSc
Candidates should possess MBBS/ BDS/B.P.T./ B.Sc. (Allied Health Sciences/ Emergency Trauma Care Technology/ Botany/Zoology/Chemistry/Life Sciences / Bioscience/ Medical Laboratory Technology) / Bachelor of Unani Medical Sciences (BUMS) / Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medical Sciences (BAMS) / Bachelor of Homeopathy Medical Sciences (BHMS) / Bachelor of Siddha Medical Sciences (BSMS) awarded by any recognized university.
For DM
Candidates should have a degree in MD (General Medicine or Paediatrics) or its equivalent qualification, for admission to DM in Reproductive Medicine candidates should have a degree in MD/MS/DNB (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) Degree or its equivalent qualification
For MCh
Candidates should have MS (General Surgery) Degree or its equivalent qualification
