Overview
Motilal Nehru School of Sports (MNSS), Sonipat, sited 37 km north of Delhi at Rai, was founded in 1973 by the Haryana government with the prime objective of providing K-XII holistic education with special focus on sports to deserving students at subsidised rates. Designed on the public school pattern, MNSS is a fully residential and co-educational school.
The school’s administration is vested in a special board constituted by the state government, which ensures a stimulating environment for intellectual, aesthetic and physical development of its students.
Campus
The 300-acre MNSS campus covers the school building, academics and administrative blocks, hostels, residential accommodation for staff, auditorium, athletics stadium, an Olympic size swimming pool, gymnasium, rifle shooting range, tennis, squash, basketball and volleyball courts, equestrian lines, football, hockey and cricket fields, school infirmary and miles of boulevards.
The science block houses spacious and well-equipped laboratories besides the craft workshop. The school library is well-stocked and meticulously maintained. It has reading and stack rooms. Classrooms are equipped with Computer Aided Instructional Systems (CAIS) and overhead projectors.
MNSS has a 25-bed hospital with two resident medical officers assisted by highly qualified medical staff. All serious cases are immediately reported to parents.
The school hosts an acoustically designed 500-seat auditorium equipped with modern P.A. and stage equipment and a 35 mm projector. Where educational, sports and feature films are regularly screened, MNSS also has an open air theatre.
School transport comprises a staff car, two mini buses/vans and a Tata Sumo made available to students for attending sports tournaments and excursions. Two fully equipped messes serve wholesome vegetarian food to all students monitored by house masters, tutors and the hostel superintendent / matron.
Accomodation
The school is grouped under four houses: Indra, Soma, Surya and Varuna. Each is directly under the charge of a house master/mistress assisted by house tutors. The house master/mistress acts as the local guardian of a child belonging to his/her house.
MNSS believes that following the prefectural system bears significance in school education. Thus the house captain, senior and junior house prefects actively assist the house master in running the house.
