Overview
Mater Dei School for Girls, Delhi was founded in 1956 by the Sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. A Christian minority school, its objective is to provide a stimulating environment which encourages holistic development of students. It is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and offers education from class I-XII.
Campus
School facilities include state-of-the-art physics, chemistry, biology, math and computer labs, and a well-ventilated, well-stocked and spacious library. Art and craft rooms allow students to show their creative talent. The school also has a paper recycling plant and water harvesting plant.
On campus there is a qualified counsellor with whom students can discuss their problems. Teachers can also refer students who need special attention to the counselor. Students are provided hygienically prepared food, catered by a company called Fast Trax.
Academics
Mater Dei School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and offers classes from I to XII. The system of continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) is followed. Students are evaluated based on projects and other work, in addition to examinations.
The school offers the following streams in class XI and XII -- arts, science and commerce.
Extracurricular:
Sports and games such as chess, carrom, volleyball, kho-kho, softball, badminton, table tennis, basketball, and athletics are on offer. After school, coaching in basketball, table tennis, karate, gymnastics and roller skating is provided. Students also participate in drama, singing, dancing, quizzes and debates. Regular dance and music classes (both Indian and Western) are offered.
