Overview
Loyola School, Jamshedpur was promoted in 1947 by the Society of Jesus, a Roman Catholic religious order founded by St. Ignatius Loyola in 1540. Loyola is a day school with about 3200 students from kindergarten to higher secondary and is owned and managed by Loyola Jamshedpur, a registered society which also constitutes the governing body of the school. The motto of the school is “In Cartitate et Justitia” (In Love and Justice).
Affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi, the school aims at preparing students to become professionally competent citizens with concern for the underprivileged and aims to build a just society.
Campus
Loyola School, Jamshedpur offers bright classrooms, well stocked libraries with more than 60 000 books and periodicals, audio-visual facilities for presenting projects, teaching lessons etc, five science labs and two computer labs, gymnasium with state of the art equipment and a canteen which serves nutritious meals and snacks.
The school also offers world class infrastructure for sports such as cricket, football, basketball, volleyball and handball, golf, swimming, martial arts, badminton, horse riding, and motorcycling.
Academics
Loyola School, Jamshedpur follows the 10+2 format under CISCE board. It offers Arts, Science and Commerce at the higher secondary school level. The medium of instruction is English. However Hindi is included in the curriculum and is taught daily in all standards. Education at Loyola is liberal and universal, but at the same time it is firmly rooted in Indian history and tradition, and follows the guidelines laid down by the Indian Education Commissions.
Extracurricular:
The school promotes various clubs such as Astronomy Club, Physics Club, Mathematics Club, Social Service Club, Press Club and Leadership camps and also encourages self expression by promoting elocution and entertainment, dramatics, debates, quizzes, etc.
Admission
Admission to classes other than KG and XI depends on vacancies, and candidates are required to write an admission test following which they need to appear for an interview with the school authorities. Admissions to all classes are closed on the last working day in September. 10 percent of the seats are reserved for below poverty line (BPL) candidates in the KG classes. The age eligibility for admission in KG is 4½ - 5 years. Students of this age are interviewed for intelligence and elementary literacy.
Fees:
The monthly tuition fee varies between Rs 890 and Rs 1220. At the time of admission, an admission fee of Rs 1000, a caution deposit of Rs 3000 and an establishment fund of Rs 2000 needs to be paid.
