Overview
Loreto Convent School, Shillong was founded in 1909 with 26 students and finds its place among the premier schools in the state of Meghalaya today. It is a Catholic institution managed by the Sisters of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM) known as the Loreto Sisters. It is an English medium all girls day cum residential school which aims “giving its pupils a sound moral education while devoting special attention to their intellectual, social and physical development”.
Although the primary purpose of the school is the education of the Catholic girls, students of the other religious denominations, irrespective of caste, creed and community, are also accepted.
Campus
The school campus hosts a well stocked library, state-of-the-art laboratories, spacious and well-ventilated classrooms, chapel, children’s park, a music room, a hall for exhibition and functions and a gymnasium.
Academics
The school is affiliated with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi and offers education form nursery to higher secondary. The medium of instructions is English and Khasi and Hindi are taught as second languages. The school curriculum includes religious instructions (for Catholics) and value education (for non-Catholics) as compulsory subjects.
Extracurricular: The school promotes various co-curricular activities such as recitation, elocution, music, dance and debate. Sports activities include polo, basket ball, karate and athletics.
