Overview
Kendriaya Vidyalaya, IIT-Madras (Chennai) is a coeducational day school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Established in 1964 with the patronage and assistance of the management of IIT-Chennai, the school has grown from 250 students and 10 teachers to 1,607 and 64 respectively.
KV IIT Chennai’s management committee functions under the guidance of the dean, academic courses, IIT Madras Prof K Ramamurthy.
Campus
The school is sited within the sprawling IIT-Chennai campus and offers 37 spacious class rooms, two staff rooms, well equipped labs for physics, chemistry, and biology for senior students, as also a junior science lab. There are three well equipped labs for computer, an auditorium with LCD projectors, a resource room, an AV room, art room and music room, a SUPW room and a sports room. The school library is computerized and well stocked with a huge collection of books.
The campus also hosts a volleyball court, tennis court, basketball court, a cricket ground and a football ground.
Academics
Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Chennai has a bilingual medium of instruction with the aim to achieve proficiency in both English and Hindi languages. Sanskrit is also taught from class V to IX. The school follows the CBSE curriculum and the CCE (continuous and comprehensive evaluation) method of evaluation.
KV IIT Chennai promotes physical fitness and games amongst its students through various interschool, regional and national level sports competitions. The school provides coaching for sports such as football, cricket, basketball, throwball, Kho-Kho, volleyball and athletics.
Co-curricular activities such as Math Olympiad, drug awareness program, Science Olympiad, Scouts and Guides, social science and science exhibition and sports meet are conducted.
