Overview
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Canacona, Goa is a coeducational residential school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Founded in 1986 with 54 students, over the years the Vidyalaya has grown to educate around 400 students under the aegis of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, following the norms and policies enshrined by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
JNVs are alternate schools for talented children in rural areas of India which aim at providing the children the best residential school system irrespective of their socio-economic background. There are approximately 595 JNVs across India offering education from class VI through XII.
Campus
Spread over 13 acres, the campus hosts a library, well equipped labs for physics, chemistry, biology, math, language and computer science, spacious classrooms, multipurpose hall, medical infirmary and indoor games room.
The campus also has courts and fields for basketball, cricket, throwball, volleyball, football, and table tennis, among others.
Accomodation
The campus hosts four dormitories that accommodate 192 boys and three spacious dormitories that accommodate 192 girls.
Academics
Affiliated with CBSE, the school offers classes from class VI to XII with Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) as a method of assessment. To nurture balanced and holistic development of its students, the school also offers a host of co-curricular and sports activities.
Admission
Admissions to JNVs are made through national level competitive examination conducted by the CBSE called the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). The test is nonverbal, class neutral and designed to ensure that talented children from the rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantages. Children are admitted at class VI level and admissions to classes IX and XI are made against the vacant seats through regional level examination/marks in the previous qualifying examination.
