Overview
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Chennithala, Alappuzha, Kerala is a coeducational residential school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Founded in 1992, JNV Chennithala, Alappuzha is a part of the JNV group of schools run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Education, Government of India.
JNVs are alternate schools for talented children in rural areas of India which aim at providing the children the best residential school system irrespective of their socio-economic background. There are approximately 595 JNVs across India offering education from class VI through XII.
Campus
The 13.5 acre school campus hosts a well stocked library, well equipped labs for physics, chemistry, biology, computer science and language, a museum enriched with antiques and handicrafts, smart classrooms, multipurpose hall, canteen, infirmary and playgrounds.
Accomodation
The school hosts 10 hostels, of which two are for the junior section and eight for the senior section; of the eight senior section hostels, four hostels are for boys and four hostels for the girls.
Academics
Affiliated with CBSE, JNV Alappuzha offers schooling from class VI through XII. In order to excel in the board examinations and improve its academic forte, the school has classified the essential learning pre-requisite for X class in each subject. Every subject has a committee that prepares study material and administers the same to slow learners of class IX with effective supervision and monitoring of their academic records by house masters. Students of class X and XI stay back during the winter vacation for rigorous coaching and revision.
Besides academics, the school also offers a range of extracurricular activities and promotes clubs for nurturing the students' interests in areas of their choice.
Admission
Admissions to JNVs are made through national level competitive examination conducted by the CBSE called the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). The test is nonverbal, class neutral and designed to ensure that talented children from the rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantages. Children are admitted at class VI level and admissions to classes IX and XI are made against the vacant seats through regional level examination/marks in the previous qualifying examination.
