Overview

J.B. Petit High School, Mumbai is an all girls day school affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. The school provides education from kindergarten to class X. Established in 1860, the school was originally known as Miss Prescott’s Fort Christian School, and was later renamed as the Frere Fletcher School. In 1915, the school was amalgamated with the Cathedral Girls’ School and Jehangir Bomanji Petit took over the functioning of the school, following which it was renamed as JB Petit High School for Girls.

 

JB Petit High School boasts student strength of 900 with 38 students in each class. The school is a recipient of International School Award for 2009-12 instituted by the British Council. The school has evolved a cross-disciplinary approach to learning its students regularly participate in the Seeds of Peace conflict resolution camp in the U.S. every year, which aims to empower young leaders from regions of conflict with the skills for advancing reconciliation and coexistence.

Campus

The school hosts a well stocked library and well equipped laboratories. The school campus is equipped with an in-house as well as an external security system.

 

The school campus offers a canteen that serves wholesome meals and snacks and a designated sick room with basic first aid. The school has also tied up with Bombay Hospital for treatment during medical emergencies.

Academics

JB Petit High School follows the syllabus prescribed by CISCE and English is the primary medium of instruction. In addition, Hindi up to class X and Marathi from class IV to VII are compulsory.

 

The pre primary and primary section - kindergarten to class IV have subjects such as mathematics, communication skills, science, social studies, computer applications and environmental education along with languages like English, Hindi and Marathi.

 

The middle school - classes V to VIII have subjects such as languages (English, Hindi and Marathi), mathematics, communication skills, science, social studies, computer applications, environmental education.

 

The syllabus for secondary school - class IX to X is divided into three groups, where group one includes languages (English, and Hindi or French) and subjects like social studies (history and geography) and environmental education.  Group two includes mathematics, environmental science and science (physics, chemistry and biology) or commercial studies. In group three students can choose anyone of the following - computer applications, cookery, yoga or art.  

 

Extracurricular: Co-curricular activities include music and singing, art and art appreciation, craft, needlework, athletics, physical education and games, dance, yoga, speech and drama, class assemblies, field trips and excursions, model United Nations, extempore speeches, charity collections, fund raising, educational tours, choir, gymnastics, literary contribution to school magazine etc.

LKG Admissions

Children may be registered upon completion of 1 year of age from July 1 to 15 between 10 am - 12 noon on school working days. Parents/guardians of the child seeking admission must submit the duly filled in registration form. Registration forms may be downloaded from the school website and submitted to the school admission office.

UKG – Standard VIII Admissions

Application letters can be posted or deposited in the school drop box. The envelopes must be labeled ‘primary’ on applications for class LKG – IV and 'secondary' on applications for class V - X. The application must have mention the student’s date of birth, class to which admission is sought, residential address/ contact details/ telephone numbers / email address and latest school reports.
