Overview
Founded in 1994, the Hansraj Public School is named after the eminent luminary Mahatma Hansraj, first headmaster of D.A.V. School at Lahore. The school is spread over an area of 7.8 acres with a built up area of 5573 square meters and open area of 1940.13 square meters.
The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and it follows the Early Education Development Program (EEDP) launched by D.A.V. Education Board from nursery to class five.
Campus
The school library has 1326 books, subscription to 5 journals, 27 magazines, 425 book banks and 4725 complimentary books. The school has an air conditioned multimedia theatre, a special art and craft section called the artist’s domain, a computer room, well equipped laboratories, language lab with audio visual (AV) facility and a math lab. The school also has a smart class with an interactive whiteboard, a learning center to aid children with learning difficulties and a medical room with a physician available on all days.
The play room has a TV and stereo-music system for children to watch fairy tales and nursery rhymes, besides various educational kits and games. The outdoor play area has swings, jungle gyms, a vibrating bus, slides and an electric toy train.
The school’s tuck shop provides nutritious refreshments for children. The reprographic room has automation machines like photocopiers, laser printer, color graphic design workstation and a high speed mini-offset machine.
The school has facilities for indoor games like table soccer, carom, chess, table tennis and outdoor facilities for games like basketball, kho-kho and badminton etc. The school also has skating rink of international standards and a cricket coaching center.
The school offers transport facility; bus conductors are equipped with mobile phones to update on-route status of the buses and to take necessary action in case of a breakdown or an emergency.
Accomodation
The school has a hostel facility for girls only. The hostel has a gym equipped with the latest exercising equipment and internet and STD/ISD facilities for children to connect with their family. There are special coaching classes for hostelities particularly those who are preparing for their board examination (VIII, X, XII) and for the academically weak students.
Academics
The school curriculum and evaluation is based on CBSE parameters and it follows the Early Education Development Program (EEDP) launched by D.A.V. Education Board from nursery to class V. The EEDP involves activity based learning by taking children through concrete and abstract concepts with the use of educational aids. Children are assessed against a checklist of milestones to be achieved at every stage and each child is judged against his/her own previous performance. Homework is minimal and given only in the form of worksheets and project work.
The school has also introduced the Cambridge Young Learners English Tests for classes II to VII. These tests are conducted through the British Council with the aim of enhancing language skills and encouraging positive learning experiences coupled with systematic language testing in a stress free environment. The students of classes VI to VIII also appear for the Key English Test (KET) & Preliminary English Test (PET) which are a part of the main suite of Cambridge Examinations.
Calligraphy classes are conducted for classes III to V in English and Hindi.
Admission
Students seeking admission in nursery are registered in December. The selection is done on the basis of draw of lots and the date for the same is intimated at the time of registration. The age limit for admission to nursery is three and a half years plus as on March 31 of the year in which admission is sought. 25% seats in the nursery class are reserved for students from below poverty line (BPL Card holders) families according to RTE norms.
Registrations for class Xl are held in March and provisional admissions are made on the basis of the pre-board examination result.
Achievements
The school organizes blood donation camps along with its staff and the parents. It also contributes to the society by buying cards for Institute for the Blind and for cancer patients.
