Overview
Established in 1980, Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) University, Vishakapatnam was affiliated to the Andhra University; in 2007 the institute was conferred the status of deemed university - becoming the first private engineering institute in Andhra Pradesh to receive the status.
GITAM University has three campuses - the main campus is located at Vishakapatnam and the other two campuses are at located at Hyderabad and Bangalore.
The institute boasts highly qualified, dedicated and committed faculty, learner-centric teaching methodology with need based curriculum designed by academic experts and industry personnel, state of the art laboratories, e-class rooms, open courseware and updated course structure that integrates value education, environmental awareness and communication skills into its curriculum.
The Training and Placement cell equips the students with the necessary corporate skills set right from day one of their admission and grooms them on a regular basis throughout their stay. The 100 percent placement record of the institution for all the eligible candidates every year with a pay package ranging from Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 16 lakh per annum is an ample testimony of the quality of technical education imparted at GITAM.
Campus
GITAM hosts a 100 acre campus in Rushikonda that houses state of the art laboratories and classrooms, a well stocked library, three main food canteens, a few fast food outlets, 24x7 health care center with all types of medical facilities and ambulances for emergencies.
The sports infrastructure includes seven acres of playground for games like cricket, football, handball, volleyball, kho-kho, ball badminton, kabaddi and athletics, a gymnasium, an indoor stadium, wooden flooring for basketball, volleyball and badminton and four international standard tennis courts.
Accomodation
GITAM offers residential facility for the students and faculty with uninterrupted power supply, 24x7 security and indoor games. The boys’ hostel can accommodate 3300 students and the girls’ hostels can accommodate 2000 students.

GITAM University Science Activity Centre (GUSAC) and cultural club offers students opportunities to showcase their creativity and innovation in technical and cultural arena. The institute promotes clubs such as NSS, Rotary Club, Vivann and Engineers without Borders etc. to instill social responsibility among students.
Admission
Interested students must write a common online entrance test called as GITAM Admission Test (GAT) conducted in various centers. Candidates can either apply online or obtain applications by post from Director-Admissions by sending a request on plain paper mentioning their name and mailing address along with a DD of Rs. 1,100/- (Rs. 700/- for female candidates) drawn in favour of GITAM University payable at Vishakapatnam in any scheduled bank. Applications are also available at branches of Union Bank of India, Indian Bank and Karur Vysya Bank throughout India.
Eligibility:
Undergraduate programs
Candidates must clear the GAT (UGTP) GITAM Online Admission Test; besides this, for admission to any of the B.Tech programs (except biotechnology), the candidate should have passed in intermediate or class XII examination from a recognized central/state board or its equivalent and obtained a minimum of 60 percent aggregate marks in mathematics, physics and chemistry and first class or equivalent grade in the qualifying examination.
For admission to B.Tech in Biotechnology, the candidate should have obtained a minimum of 60 percent aggregate marks in mathematics/biology, physics and chemistry and first class or equivalent grade in the qualifying examination.
For admission to M.Tech programs, the candidate should have passed in the qualifying examination from a recognized university with a minimum of 50 percent marks or equivalent grade and must have obtained the required score in GAT (PGT).
The institute provides scholarships and fellowships to meritorious UG and PG students out of its own resources and endowments created by liberal donations from philanthropists, besides this the institute allows full/partial fee waiver to top 100 students of GITAM Admission Test (GAT).

Achievements
GITAM has been accredited with an A grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the HRD Ministry, Government of India. GITAM has been accorded 12-B status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) facilitating research and is approved by AICTE with its eligibility extending to almost all undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
GITAM also achieved the highest Creditable Performance Score among all engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh in the Academic Audit conducted by the State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) in 2003. GITAM was included as one of the top 30 Engineering Colleges by IBM in their ‘The Great Mind Challenge’ Contest. The programs offered by GIT have been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) thrice and GITAM was selected by the HRD Ministry, Govt. of India for “Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP)” in 2011.
