Overview
Established in 2009, GEMS Akademia International School (GAIS) is a co-educational, K-12 day residential school located in Thakurpukur, Kolkata. It is a world class school and a part of GEMS Education international network of schools, with branches in 151 countries.
The school offers students a choice between the Cambridge International Examination (CIE) curriculum and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) curriculum. The school is open to admission from nursery to class XII.
Campus
The classrooms are innovatively designed with internet connectivity, interactive boards and projector screens. The school hosts a suite of separate laboratories for mathematics, physics, chemistry, zoology, botany, earth science, computers and languages. A library with a vast collection of academic and non-academic books is provided for the students. Other facilities included learning lounge, hygienic dining hall, cafeteria, administrative block, rooms for music, dance and art and a wellness center.
GAIS campus also hosts cricket and football fields, courts for badminton, basketball, squash, tennis and volleyball; multi-lane athletic track, Olympic size swimming pool and games halls for table tennis, billiards, chess, martial arts and other indoor games.
Accomodation
The school provides separated hostel facilities for boys and girls. All the rooms are air-conditioned with separate cupboard and study space.
Academics
The school is affiliated with the Cambridge International Examination (CIE), UK and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi.
The school offers preschool education to children between 2 to 5 years. The curriculum of the playschool is play-based and child-centered, recognising students’ multiple intelligences.
The elementary school based on the Cambridge International Primary Programme comprises Grades I to V. The Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme is offered for Grades VII and VIII. The Cambridge IGCSE curriculum is offered for Grades IX and X. For Grades XI and XII, the Cambridge International AS/A levels are offered.
The school prepares the CISCE students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination conducted at the end of Grade X and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination conducted at the end of Grade XII.
Extracurricular
The school offers a range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities for the holistic development of the child. Alongside academics, performing arts such as musical instruments, dance, theatre and creative interests like calligraphy, clay modeling, drawing, gardening, origami and pottery are given equal importance.
Outdoor sports such as athletics, swimming, cricket, football, lawn tennis, volleyball and indoor sports such as badminton, billiards, chess, squash, table tennis are encouraged.
Admission
Admission at GEMS Academia International School is open to all without any discrimination based on caste, creed, colour and religion.
Minimum age for admission to Nursery class is 2 years. Parents applying for nursery class are required to fill up an application form. There is no formal test conducted for Nursery, LKG and UKG. From class I onwards, the school conducts an Aptitude Test to determine the child’s proficiency across different subject areas.
