Overview
GD Birla Memorial School for Boys was promoted by BK Birla and Dr. Sarala Birla in 1987 in memory of the eminent industrialist Ghanshyam Das Birla. It is an English-medium residential school situated in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand. Affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, the school offers education to over 700 students from grades IV through XII. It is a member of the prestigious Indian Public Schools’ Conference and the Round Square International.

Campus
The sprawling 34 acre campus is sited on a hill slope about 5 kilometers from Ranikhet town in Almora district of Uttarakhand state and 360 kilometers from Delhi. The campus boasts classrooms equipped with wi-fi connected computers, a well stocked library offering an exhaustive collection of books, periodicals, reference material, CDs and DVDs, and well equipped science, math and computer laboratories, besides a state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity of 1000 persons, a 24 hours infirmary service with registered physician on duty, a counseling centre, a dining hall and sprawling playgrounds for children.
Accomodation
The boarding residence comprises two houses - students of classes IV to VIII reside in the junior house and students of classes IX to XII reside in the senior house. Matron, houseboys and staff members take care of the needs of children in each boarding house.
Academics
The school follows the CBSE curriculum and the subjects taught are English, Hindi, and Sanskrit, mathematic, history, geography, democratic politics, physics, chemistry and biology. At the senior secondary level, students can choose between science and commerce streams.
Extracurricular: The school encourages the students to develop their interest in art, drama, music, photography, painting, book craft and gardening and offers several sports facilities including cricket, football, tennis, hockey, golf, basket ball, carom, chess, table tennis, athletics and Yoga. Besides, adventure sports like water rafting and trekking are also organized. Students are provided opportunities to participate in public speaking and quiz shows to enhance their knowledge and creativity.
Admission
The registration form cum prospectus is available at the school office and the administrative office in Kolkata. Applicants need to register with the school before appearing for admission test in English and mathematics. Parents should accompany the candidates at the time of admission test and interactive session. Selected candidates must produce the transfer certificate from the school last attended along with the results. The school academic year commences in March and ends in December.
Fees: The admission and endowment fee is Rs 5000/- and the school fees add up to Rs 37,000/- per annum, payable in two installments. A refundable security deposit of Rs 5000/- also needs to be paid at the time of admission. Rs. 7,500/- is to be deposited for personal expenses.
