Overview

DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Founded on August 4, 1989 at Sailashree Vihar by DAV College Trust and Management Society, a residential township in the northern part of Bhubaneswar. The school campus is spread across 7 acres, facilitating 90 classrooms and plaground for school students.

 

The school was promoted with the objective of providing quality education in Orissa by the Dayanand Anglo-Vedic College Trust and Management Society. The society came into existence as a tribute to Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of the Arya Samaj who inspired Indians to "go back to the Vedas'.

 

The credit for introducing the DAV movement in Orissa goes to Dr. A.N. Khosla, the then governor of Orissa, under whose guidance the DAV Society played an instrumental role in spreading literacy and technical education to even the remote areas of the state.

 

D.A.V. Public School, Chandrasekharpur took off with 90 students and 17 staff members and today boasts a student strength of 3600 and staff strength of 130. It offers education from lower kindergarten to senior secondary.

Campus

The state-of-the-art school campus hosts 90 well ventilated classrooms equipped with ICT teaching-learning facility, ergonomically designed for different age groups, two conference halls equipped with audio-visual facilities (LCD Projector) designed for conducting seminars, workshops and orientation programs, air-conditioned classrooms for senior secondary students, well equipped labs for physics, chemistry, biology and computer. The 'Ramanujan Maths Lab' helps students understand difficult mathematical concepts through demonstration with the help of different models, charts and experiments.

 

The school library features more than 14,720 books on literature, children's books, encyclopedias, reference books and text books, besides subscriptions to a wide array of newspapers, periodicals and magazines, and educational CDs and DVDs. The seminar library provides reference materials for the senior secondary students aspiring for admission into professional courses such as IIT, JEE, AIEEE, AIPMT, AIIMS.

 

The auditorium has a seating capacity of 350. The book store supplies books and stationery prescribed in the curriculum for all the classes. It also publishes the school diary, special notebooks, practical records and question gallery.


The school campus hosts a branch of the Orissa Co-operative Bank with ATM facility to facilitate fee submissions and other financial transaction of the school.

 

The school play ground covers an area of 3 acres with a basket ball court, football court, cricket, hockey, badminton and kho-kho.

Accomodation

The school provides hostel facility only for outstation XI and XII students. There are two hostel for boys and girls. The hostel accommodates 60 girls and 10 boys.

Academics

The school follows the curriculum prescribed by CBSE and offers education from lower kindergarten to class XII. From LKG to class XII, students are assessed on the basis of the whole year’s performance and there are no formal examinations from class I to class IV. Students can opt for Science, Commerce or Humanities at the senior secondary level.

 

The school spends 200-220 days on teacher-training anually.

 

Extracurricular: Along with academics, the school promotes a host of co-scholastic activities such as debates, science quiz, math club, creative writing, theatre, sculpture, music, dance and drama, besides various indoor and outdoor sports. Educational tours in and outside Orissa are conducted and programmes of educative values are also conducted regularly. 

 

NCC (Army and Air Wing) for boys and girls, scouts and guides, red cross, NSS, activities for public awareness in the interest of national integeration is promoted by school.

Admission

For admission in the nursery class, the age of the child must b 3+ as on 1st April of the year concerned. The age should not cross 4. The admission for any other class, the child must have completed the course of the previous class. The selection for admission into class UKG to VIII is being made through random basis (draw of lots) and other classes through admission test.

 

Registration form for admission can be obtained from the school office or can be downloaded from the school website. Admission forms for UKG to class VIII are issued after notification for the purpose, based on vacancy. Priority is given to the applicants whose parents have been transferred to Bhubaneswar from outstations. Registration forms are issued free of cost from the school office for the children belonging to the disadvantaged group (SC/ST/SEBC) and economically weaker sections of the society (BPL card holders), residing within 1km of the school, on submission of the requisite documents outlined in the school prospectus.

 

Admission forms for class IX and X are issued after notification for the purpose, based on vacancy and candidates are required to write an admission test. Selection for admission into class XI is based on performance in the entrance test or marks secured in the class X board exams. 

Achievements

Year on year, the school has been ranked among the top schools in the country with respect to performance in class X and class XII CBSE examinations and in class VII DAV Common Board Examinations. Its academic excellence has also fetched it the ‘Pride of DAV’ laurels from DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi for the last 7 years.

 

The school has been felicitated with the “Computer Literacy Excellency Award-2003” instituted by Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India for popularizing the IT awareness in the state from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India. The school has also received the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award for the commendable services rendered to the field of education by All India National Unity Conference and the National Award to Teachers 2006 by the honorable President of India under the aegis of Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
