Overview
Christ Church School (CCS), Clare Road, Mumbai, was promoted in 1718 by Rev. Richard Cobbe as a free-of-charge school for disadvantaged children living in the area. Later on, the Bombay Education Society took over the governance of the school. Currently it is a co-educational school with nearly 2,900 students, and offers education from play school to class X as well as junior college (classes XI and XII). CCS is affiliated to the New Delhi-based Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE).
The objective of the school is to produce global citizens, encouraging not only academic excellence, but also motivating them to think and act independently, take initiative, and be socially sensitive.
Campus
CCS boasts a green campus full of trees. There is a play-park with slides, sand-pit, pond, see-saw, merry-go-rounds and swings for pre-primary students.
The school has two fully equipped computer labs with around 40 computers for the junior and senior school. There is also an air-conditioned A/V Room with a seating capacity of 120, equipped with the latest ceiling-mounted multi-media projector. The room also serves as the central-server for the computer networking in senior school.
The school library is well stocked catering to all students from nursery to class X. Besides course-based books, staff and students can find reference books, journals, student based magazines, sports magazines, and newspapers.
The students take pride in the art room, where on weekends, one can see the more serious artists working hard for the elementary and intermediate art examinations. Apart from the art room, the school also has a music room complete with two keyboards, a digital piano, a drum-set and guitars, as well as amplifiers.
There is a hi-tech gym, a basketball court, and space for karate classes, table-tennis, and chess. This is also one of the few schools in South and South-Central Mumbai to have its own playground.
Academics
CCS is affiliated to the New Delhi-based Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) and offers education from play school to class X. In the pre primary section, the focus is on a holistic approach by integrating both class-room and experiential methods of teaching. Plenty of field trips and puppet shows help children see and learn. The junior school (class I to IV) follows a child-centric syllabus with no examinations to give young scholars a stress- free environment to grow. The middle school (classes V to X) curriculum encourages hands-on learning with projectors fitted in all classrooms to aid teaching-learning. The focus is on experiential learning with students encouraged to apply what they learn in real life.
Admission
Application forms for playgroup, junior KG (Nursery) and senior KG (Prep) are available after the second week of November from the school office. Admission into other classes depends on vacancies arising due to withdrawal of students. Only application forms procured from the school office will be considered if vacancies arise.
