Overview
Choice School, Thripunithura, Kochi, is a coeducational day and residential school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The school was founded by Jose Thomas, managing director of Choice Group and Choice Foundation on June 21, 1991. The school which began with 10 staff members and 90 students, today enrolls over 2,200 students and 250 staff members. It offers education from pre-school to class XII.
Situated on the outskirts of the city, the school campus consists of 5 blocks, housing the kindergarten, primary school, main school, admin block and the hostel.
Campus
The kindergarten section offers a range of colorful, safe toys and educational games, indoor and outdoor facilities, and sufficient play space.
The school offers two well-stocked libraries, one each for the senior and junior sections. The school has well-equipped labs for physics, chemistry and biology. The school also has three exclusive computer labs for senior, junior and primary students. The computer lab is equipped with high-end computers and a team of highly qualified staff.
The resource room helps children with learning difficulties and gives them special care and exclusive remedial classes. The school also employs a student counselor.
Sports facilities include a basketball court and a sports ground measuring the size of an international football stadium.
Accomodation
The school boarding provides hostel facilities to both boys and girls and can accommodate 150 students. The hostel is a two floor residential complex with state-of-the-art dormitories, ergonomically designed two tier beds with added storage space, cupboards and shelf space for each resident. The residents have assigned corners within the dorm according to their class levels.
The boarding has resident tutors who are committed to look after the personal and academic needs of the students.
Academics
In pre-school and KG, the teacher-pupil ratio is 1:10. The curriculum consists of rhymes, guided activities, and indoor and outdoor play. Children are placed in a caring and non-competitive environment that is designed for physical, emotional, social and intellectual development. At the prep level, children acquire reading, writing, and arithmetic skills along with an aptitude for other activities.
The primary classes I-IV are housed in a colourful building with vibrant interiors and walls displaying themes such as the sea world, the rain forests and the galaxy to create a strong visual impact and provide students with an appealing atmosphere for learning. Field trips and nature walks also form part of the curriculum. Children are encouraged to participate in various sports activities. Children of the primary school are introduced to computers from class III.
In classes V-VII, teacher-parent interactions are held often and remedies for difficulties faced by students are offered. Students are encouraged to participate in inter-house and inter-school activities.
Students of classes VIII-X are prepared for their first board examinations and are encouraged to take part in cultural and sporting activities. Interactive workshops and career counseling are also conducted at this level.
At the Plus Two (classes XI and XII) level students can choose between commerce and science streams.
Extracurricular education
The school offers training in fine arts, Eastern, Western and instrumental music, voice training, literary activities, dance classes and life skills.
Sports offered include basketball, volleyball, athletics, football, cricket, table tennis, swimming and badminton.
Admission
The application forms for admission can be collected from the school after the announcement of admission date. Outstation applicants can collect the forms from the school office through relatives/friends. Normally, admission commences from December.
Achievements
The Choice School basketball and swimming teams have won accolades at the National Level several times.
