Overview
Chinmaya International Residential School is a school run by the Chinmaya Mission. It is located 30 kilometers west of the city of Coimbatore in a place called Siruvani in the foot hills of Western Ghats. Located on a 75 acres campus the school offers CBSE from classes V-XII and International Baccalaureate for classes XI and XII. Founded on June 6th, 1996, this fully vegan school is based on the principals and values of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayanadaji, founder of CIRS and the Chinmaya mission.
The school places emphasis on the Hindu culture and spirituality. It also aims to provide an environment that helps integrate the best of all cultures and be a cultural home away from home for the growing children.The Chinmaya vision program aims at giving the future citizens of India and the west a true vision of life to help them face challenges in a positive and dynamic manner and heartily contribute to society.
Campus
The school is locates on 77.93 acres of land with a built up area of 29000 sqms in Siruvani near Coimbatore at the foot of the Western Ghats.
The school library has an impressive collection of academic and reference books, as well as journals and periodicals.
The spacious and fly-proof dining hall caters to all students and staff. Delicious and balanced vegetarian dishes are prepared under strict hygienic conditions. The cuisine consists of Continental, Chinese and all-Indian. A large swimming pool with an automatic water purifying system is a popular spot for the growing, active students. Well trained staff members not only train the students in the finer arts of swimming but are present with them always for their safety.
For the older age groups, a state-of-the-art multipurpose gymnasium and fitness centre is available in the school to improve their physique, strength and stamina.
CIRS has a sophisticated multi-purpose auditorium to host functions and show movies. The school assembly is held here daily. State-of-the-art communication facilities include telephone, fax, e-mail and the internet. The school has extensive grounds for playing sports like basketball, tennis courts, and a new cricket field.
Accomodation
The basic living unit is the Chhatralaya (students hostel), managed by the resident house master. Being a co-educational school, separate Chhatralayas exist for boys and girls. A full time matron/warden looks after the welfare and needs of students, who are nurtured and groomed through love, affection, persuasion instead of harsh methods.
The dormitories are spacious, well-ventilated and fly-proof. Common bathrooms for each dormitory are fitted with all modern facilities. Abundant hot and cold water is available for bathing. All dorms have water coolers with Aqua Guard. Spacious common rooms are equipped with televisions, music systems, reading materials and a number of indoor games.
Academics
Chinmaya International Residential School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi and the IBO, Geneva. The School has classes from V to XII and with relatively small class sizes that allows the teachers to give individual attention to the students. The children get regular feedback and guidance from their teachers and their progress is carefully monitored. Parental involvement is also given importance by giving them an opportunity to discuss their child's academic development.
Extracurricular:
Sports and games form an important part of the student's life to promote good health, self confidence and team spirit, besides providing necessary recreation. The budding talents are given special coaching by experts and given maximum opportunity to participate in the district and state level inter-school competitions.
As part of the overall personality development programme, students are encouraged to participate in various hobbies and activities, such as arts, cookery, dance, dramatics, film & photography, gardening, handicraft & needlework, heritage, English literature & journalism, motor mechanics, veena, violin, flute, western classical guitar, nature club, philately & numismatics, science club and yoga & pranayama.
Various Social Service Programmes are also organised by the school to indicate the value of dignity of labour and compassion towards the downtrodden segments of society.
Students are taken out on organised field trips for a period of 7 -10 days to places of historical, cultural and educational importance such as Rishikesh, Nainital, Mussoorie, Mysore, Mangalore and Rajasthan. The tour is usually preceded by slide shows, preparatory talks and written assignments.
Admission
The academic year starts from April and ends in March of the ensuing year, with vacations in May-June and December.
Registration for admission is open the whole year round. The entrance exam takes place on the second Sunday of November at many centers in India and abroad. It can also be arranged by prior appointment for overseas candidates. This is followed by an interface within three weeks of the exam and the results are declared within a week thereafter.
