Overview
The Blue Mountain School, Ooty was founded in 1962 by F.G. Pearce, a renowned educationist and pioneer of the Indian Public School Movement. The school was nurtured and its philosophy of creative education further developed by well-known educationists David Horsburgh, J.P. Gunawardane and Sardar Mohammed Malik.
The school is located on a 5-acre campus on the southeastern slopes facing the Ooty valley. It is a residential co-educational English medium school affiliated with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). It admits students in class I. The teacher student ratio is 1:10.
Campus
The Blue Mountain School is housed in an old English style residential building and estate.
Accomodation
Each dormitory accommodates 14 students. Resident teachers are assigned to each dormitory.
Academics
The school is affiliated with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations and students write the class X ICSE and class XII ISC exams. Besides English, Hindi and Tamil are also taught.
Extracurricular: The school emphasizes health and physical fitness of students through participation in various sports and games and yoga. Creative and educational drama and theatre constitute another special aspect of the curriculum. Outdoor adventure activities like hiking, trekking, nature walks and camps are also regularly organized. To foster aesthetics the school offers courses in art and crafts, singing, instrumental music and dance.
Admission
Registration for admission is open from January 15. Admission forms and relevant documents are available for 550. Minimum admission age for Class I is 6 years.
Fees: At the time of admission, students have to pay Rs.15, 000 as admission fee, Rs.65, 000 as refundable caution deposit and Rs.10, 000 as service fee. The annual fee ranges from 40,000 to 1, 50,000.
