Overview

Birla Vidya Mandir (BVM) is a residential school for boys spread over 72 acres, in the central Himalayan township of Nainital. The school is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi and admits students at class IV. Established in 1947, BVM is the dream child of renowned statesman, Bharat Ratna Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant. . Instituted by Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant, nurtured by G D Birla and patronized by eminent scholars and educationalists, BVM believes “education is the most important instrument for the transmission of culture and values from generation to generation.”

 

The school is a member of Indian Public School's Conference (IPSC), National Progressive Schools’ Conference (NPSC), CBSE Sahodaya School Complex and International Confederation of Principals (ICP).

 

ISO 9002:2000(E) and ISO 14001:1996 certified, BVM boasts advanced computer education, well equipped multimedia centres and special training programmes for Indian Institutes of Technology, Charted Accountancy and National Defense Academy entrance tests.

Campus

The 72 acre campus is dotted with purposefully built academic blocks, state-of-the-art science and computer laboratories, play-fields, gymnasium, skating rink, swimming pool, an auditorium, a dispensary and comfortable hostels. The canteen offers nutritious vegetarian meals prepared hygienically by a dietician. Amenities are available for martial-arts, rock climbing and mountaineering. Medical facilities include an infirmary, a doctor and paramedical crew, who are available on the campus round the clock. 

Accomodation

The 800 residents are accommodated in the school’s ten boarding houses. A house master heads each boarding house and ensures that the boys have all that they need away from home. The boarding houses are spacious, and provide residents with all the modern amenities of a comfortable hostel. 

Academics

The school is affiliated with CBSE, New Delhi and prepares students for the All India Secondary School Examination and the Senior School Certificate Examination in science and commerce streams. The academic year runs from March to December. The annual exam for classes IV to IX and class XI are held in December and exams for classes X and XII, conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, are held in March. Since board exams start soon after winter vacation, a winter study camp has been introduced to help students prepare for the exams. BVM is working on a cyber-school project and has a well equipped career resource center call ‘Infotech’.

 

Extra- Curricular: Painting and music are taught as compulsory subjects at BVM apart from photography, hiking, music, astronomy, journalism, computer and math clubs. The school provides facilities for creative engagements like carpentry, metal work and batik. Educational tours, to places of historical, cultural and industrial importance the world over, are organized in addition to outings, excursions, trekking and mountaineering trips into the central Himalayan region.

Admission

Admission is open at class IV, IX and XI depending upon vacancy for the academic year starting from March. The school does not admit students at class X and XII. Admission at class IV is valid only up to class X and the student had to apply fresh for admission into class XI. A transfer certificate and health certificate are a must at the time of admission. Admission fee details are available on request and are to be paid in installments. The fee includes tuition, boarding and lodging. Fee: Available on request
