Overview
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani was a dream come true of its late founder GD Birla – an eminent industrialist and a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi. Over the years, it has managed to retain its place among the top ten engineering colleges in India. The institute, which started as a small school, gradually metamorphosed into a set of higher education colleges and in 1964, these regional colleges merged into a national university offering world class technical education.
About 150 large and medium sized companies visit BITS Pilani campus every year for campus recruitment. On an average, 90 percent of BITS students who are interested in securing jobs through campus placements succeed in doing so.
Campus
BITS Pilani offers a residential campus with majority of students housed in the campus hostel. The college campus hosts first class infrastructure with well-ventilated classrooms, well-furnished and well-ventilated auditorium, a college library stocked with reference books, textbooks, journals, and magazines, and several clubs where students can showcase their talents and abilities. The student union manages events organised in the campus.
The campus canteen provides hygienic and nutritious food to its students.
The most popular clubs on campus are Music, Dance, English Drama, Hindi Press, English Press, Creative Activities, Mime, Photography and Poetry clubs and Hindi Activities Society. The sport clubs organize sports events for volleyball, table tennis, badminton, chess and carom.
The campus also hosts a medical facility and it is mandatory for every BITS student to have medical insurance; the institute has tie up with leading medical insurance firms to provide students with low cost insurance. A vehicle for medical emergency and outpatient facility is also available.
Accomodation
BITS, Pilani is a fully residential institute; it is mandatory for students who come from outside Pilani to stay in the campus hostel. The hostel rooms are well furnished and equipped with internet connectivity, while the common room is equipped with Cable TV and telephone.

Admission
The admission is on the basis of merit as assessed by the BITSAT examination, which is the first of its kind in India. BITSAT is now the most competitive of all national engineering entrance exams in the country, with an acceptance rate of less than 1.47 percent.
