Overview
Sprawled over 270 acres of immaculately manicured tea-gardens in Asom’s (formerly Assam) Sonitpur district, the generously endowed and fully-equipped Assam Valley School (AVS, est.1995) has quickly established itself as north-east India’s premier residential school and among the best countrywide. Campus
The 270 acre campus has fully-equipped classrooms. It is also furbished with a spacious 6,250 sq. ft library stocked with 16,300 volumes and 34 journal subscriptions, AVS is also among the country’s most IT-savvy schools, equipped with 176 computer terminals and 24x7 internet connectivity. AVS offers contemporary sports facilities including an Olympic-size swimming-pool, a multi-utility gymnasium, an indoor sports complex, eight fields for cricket, hockey and soccer; four synthetic international tennis courts, three squash and four badminton courts, 11 horses for equestrians and an archery range.
Accomodation
Hostel
The school has 8 boarding houses that house the students from class VI to XII and a separate boarding house for the junior class students (class III to V) .
A proper dining area is provided for the meals. The school also has excellent health care facilities available.
Academics
The junior school classes of III, IV and V follows the syllabus of interstate board for Anglo-Indian Studies. The School is affiliated to CISCE and offers the Indian Certificate for Secondary Education (ICSE) in the class X and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) at the class XII level.
Extra curricular
The aesthetic sense of students is nurtured through activities like drawing, painting, pottery cane and bamboo craft and weaving. Indian and western music both in instrumental and vocal disciplines and classical dances like Bharatnatyam and Kshattriya are encouraged and taught. Apart from this, debating and sports are also given importance. Last year an AVS duo from its active debating society won the NDTV Bone of Contention all-India inter-school debate.
Admission
Admission applications for class III are available with the tutor for admissions at tutor_adm@assamvalleyschool.com.
The students need to register first; the duly filled registration form and admit card and the registration fee of Rs 10, 000 needs to be given. The selection process includes an entrance test and personal interview. The written test is on subjects of English, mathematics, general awareness and a 2nd language (Hindi/Bengali/Assamese)
Admission into other classes is against vacancies. Separate boarding facilities are provided for girls and boys.
Fees: Around 1.5lakh per annum including tuition, board and lodging.
